"I am extremely shy"

- Can you describe your childhood?

I always played Yugiou cards with my friends. That was all I did from the 1st grade to 6th grades. I don't actually have anything else to talk about my childhood other than playing cards lol

-Are you type of a person who gets into one thing?

Well, I was the type of person who quits playing cards when everybody else quits.

-Are you type of a person who's in the center of attention?

I was hanging out with a popular group of friends when I was in elementary school, but I was a member of a science club in a middle school.

- I didn't expect a science club from you.

I wanted to make cinder toffee in a school lol There was a rule in my school that every student had to be involved with a club. But I didn't like sports, and I didn't have that many friends. So I chose a science club because I wanted to eat.

- Did you really make it (and eat it)?

Yes lol However, I became a casual member of the club soon after.

- Sounds like you associated with very different groups of friends between elementary school and middle school. Do you have a reason you can think of?

I am shy, and I become shy even with my close friends after not seeing them for 2-3 months. Plus, when I see them hanging out with other friends in a middle school, I can't really go talk to them anymore. I can't join to their group. So I couldn't make new friends easily.

- It is surprising to hear. I always thought you're an outgoing and sociable person.

I am extremely shy. I can't even make a proper eye contact with you now lol

"Rock,
Paper, Scissors Started Everything"

- What made you post your first video on the Internet when you were in the middle school?

There were some people who would film themselves and post on Niko Niko Douga(*The website that used to be as famouse as YouTube in Japan). My friends and I thought it was pretty entertaining as there were not many people who would do those things.

- I am sure it was very rare to see people show their faces to the Internet.

Yes. So we all decided to copy them, and we decided who to make a video in the rock,
paper, scissors. I lost so I was the one to make a video. But even I was so hesitant to show my face on the Internet that time. I hid my face wearing a mask, and read the script that my friends wrote in the very first videos I made.

- Did you get any response from your viewers after your first video?

Yes! I had only 100 or 200 views, but still I was surprised that 100 people watched my video. About 80% of comments were critical ones, so we decided to make another video to respond those comments. And we just repeated again and again.

- You didn't show your face then?

I showed my face because there were many comments that said "Uncover your face". I was getting used to making videos, I thought it'd be okay. I was very nervous, though. I couldn't look into a camera directly.

- You started posting your videos on November 2007, and you stopped making videos for a while. Why is that?

My viewers found out where my school was and they sent a school a threatening statement. My school called my parents and we got told off. The school told me to quit positng videos. I ended up saying "Yes I quit..."

- I can't believe some viewers sent a threatening letter to a school...were your videos extremely dangerous or something?

Not too much. I was just running on a hallway, doing backflip, or just filming as we ate lunch. It was just like a diary as we sometimes would talk about what happened in a day. But I didn't edit my videos that time.

*I would appreciate if you could point out any grammatical mistakes for me. Help me to improve this article!*

  1. Hi I appreciate how you translated the whole interview for us:) Here's some minor mistakes: the game is called 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' instead of 'caesar', and in the last paragraph I assume you mean 'diary' not 'dairy'(milk). One last thing...I don't understand what you mean in the last paragraph, 'were your videos radical'. Other than that, you've done a great job, thank you so much:D

[Part 2] Mahoto's Livedoor News Article in English

This blog post was translated based on the article here: http://news.livedoor.com/article/detail/10457641/?p=2 In this article, Mahoto was interviewed for Livedoor News article.  A path of Japanese YouTuber, Mahoto [Part 2]  Having too much fun in a high school?             - And you started making videos when you became a high school student. I did because it wouldn't bother my middle school anymore. I thought it would be okay if my high school didn't find out about it, that's why I started again. - Were you carried away by making videos when you dropped out of high school? Is that a reason? No, I entered into the high school with the lowest academic level in Tokyo, but I couldn't even catch up with that high school. My high school had a very strict rule such as if I forget to submit any homeworks, I would get 1 (as the lowest grade) for that subject. I was making an effort during my freshman year, but...after all I ended up dropping out. - Did
