You Know Mahoto Watanabe Has A New Channel, Right? I tell you the reason why!

It is not so breaking news anymore because I didn't upload any posts on this website. I have two other blog websites in Japanese language, and I will be honest I have been only writing in Japanese.
I just don't write in English as fast as my mother language. You get that, right?

Anyway I have more important news than what I have been doing.

Mahoto Watanabe has abandoned his YouTube channgel with 1 million subscribers in June this year.

On June 17th, Mahoto uploaded his last video on his exsisting account.
The title was "I'm going to change my account. This is the last video."

This news and the title of his last vide surprised many viewers. Mahoto Watanabe is very famous in Japan as people would constantly stop him on the street and ask him for handshakes and pictures. He has proved to me that he has fans all over the world. Everytime I look at access statistics of articles about Mahoto, it surprises me because I have viewers from 20-30 different countries. People who don't know Japanese language love him. Why did he abandone his channel?

What Mahoto said in the video:

  • "I've been fortunate to be called one of the top YouTubers in Japan. I appreciate it, but sometimes I felt uncomfortable and constrained. I'd like to take it easy.
  • "I am just not interested in numbers. There is Japanese YouTuber ranking system now, YouTube has become very competetive. I am not fan of what YouTube has become."
  • "I get 200k to 250 viewers on every videos I upload on this channel, but I want to achieve something that is not related to numbers."
  • "I thought about it for a day but I couldn't really get to the answer."
  • "I always want to do something that nobody has done."
  • "There are many people who suceeded at age of 23, but I thought not every young successful people let go of their success and star over."
  • "I am going to start over with a new channel with zero subscriber. But I won't change what I do in my videos. Nothing will really change, it's just a new channel."
At the end of this video, Mahoto said once again, "I don't like competetive society".
He finished the last video of his former channel "MAHOTO" and linked his new channel called "ワタナベマホト"(Watanabe Mahoto). I know, name of his new channel is not written in English...

I will link his new channel down below, just in case people lost track of his new videos.↓

Later on, he talked about the reason why he deleted his videos again.

In this video, Mahoto's YouTuber friend Tomikku asked

"Why did you change your channel?"

They filmed while they drink together. Mahoto seemed to be more honest with Tomikku (and with a little help of alcohol )

The main reason why he did what he did was because "it would be very interesting if a top YouTuber let go of a popular channel and start over. In fact, everybody started wondering, right?"

So I guess he really just wanted to do something new and different. He also mentioned about numbers of his subscribers again. He wants to keep filming videos without caring how many views he gets on each videos or how many subscribers he has.

Every YouTubers love to be where Mahoto is now. I think it is very bold move to give up his former channel. If you could check the linke down below, you can see that Mahoto's old channel is ranked 11th of all Japanese YouTubers. However that is exactly what Mahoto doesn't like or doesn't want to care anymore.

So what do you think? Do you think Mahoto did the right thing?

Again as I always say, English is not my first language and I always appreciate my English-native readers tell me where to fix it. Help me improve the articles!

  1. I've always wondered why he has two channels! The newer channel is just as great. I agree with him about the terrible focus on numbers and ranks. He is quite brave and refreshing in his thinking. Thank you for another informative article about him!!!

I did because it wouldn't bother my middle school anymore. I thought it would be okay if my high school didn't find out about it, that's why I started again. - Were you carried away by making videos when you dropped out of high school? Is that a reason? No, I entered into the high school with the lowest academic level in Tokyo, but I couldn't even catch up with that high school. My high school had a very strict rule such as if I forget to submit any homeworks, I would get 1 (as the lowest grade) for that subject. I was making an effort during my freshman year, but...after all I ended up dropping out. - Did

I don't actually have anything else to talk about my childhood other than playing cards lol -Are you type of a person who gets into one thing? Well, I was the type of person who quits playing cards when everybody else quits. - Are you type of a person who's in the center of attention?
